To get to the Eagle River field, from Anchorage take the Glenn Hwy to the first Eagle River (Hiland Rd/ Anchorage landfill) exit then turn right.

You will be on Eagle River Loop, take Eagle River Loop to Eagle River Rd. (third stop light) turn right -Wal-Mart is on this corner.

Follow Eagle River Rd East, you will see a state park sign with mile marker 7.4 on it saying  "North Fork Eagle River Access" slow down and watch for the very next driveway - approx 1/2 mile on the right, this is the driveway to the field, there is a steel pipe gate (orange) with a combination lock on it.

Eklutna Lake Canyon site

HERE ARE DIRECTIONS:

TAKE THE GLENN HYW TO EKLUTNA EXIT. TURN RIGHT AT STOP SIGN. LOOK FOR EKLUTNA LAKE STATE PARK SIGNS AND TURN LEFT ONTO NEW EKLUTNA LAKE ROAD.

FOLLOW THIS ROAD APPROX 10 MILES TO THE STATE PARK ENTRANCE. CHECK IN AT THE ENTRY POST OR AT THE PARK RANGERS OFFICE IF THE ENTRY POST IS NOT OPEN.

THE GATE TO THE CANYON SITE IS ON THE RIGHT OF THE ENTRY POST. IT IS LOCKED AND MUST REMAIN CLOSED AFTER ENTRY INTO THE CANYON SITE TO PREVENT PUBLIC ACCESS TO THIS AREA.

ALL PERSONS MUST CHECK IN TO ENTER. THE LARGE GROUP CAMPING AREA (CANYON SITE) IS APPROX ONE MILE FROM THIS GATE.

THIS IS A PRIMITIVE SITE WITH NO CELL PHONE SERVICE, WATER, OR RESTROOMS. BE PREPARED TO BRING YOUR OWN NECESSITIES.

THERE IS A PAY PHONE AT THE GATE. ALSO - THIS IS BEAR COUNTRY AND ALL PERSONS SHOULD ACT ACCORDINGLY.

The Eklutna Lake Canyon site permit has been renewed with two changes: one. we must give the Park Dept 24 hr notice of intent to use the site and two. a minimum of 4 persons must use the site per visit. I believe this is for safety reasons... no cell phone service there.
